With its first registered project, the WELL v2.0 pilot standard is being administered for the first time at the International WELL Building Institute Headquarters in a landmarked building in New York City. This is also the first project to pursue WELL certification by achieving features in the Sound concept, a new concept for WELL which highlights a project team's ability to meet a number measured and specified thresholds in acoustical performance. As the author of the concept and acoustical consultant on the project, Ethan Bourdeau has collected data, gathered notes, and assessed the overall feasibility of designing with the WELL v2.0 Sound Concept with an emphasis on designing within an existing building in an urban environment. The findings from this project have been used to help shape the way WELL intends to improve the usability of the Sound concept features and increase the global awareness of the importance of proper acoustical design for the benefit of well-being and comfort.
