Previous study showed that if properly selecting the parameters of the plate for a plate silencer, which consists of one side-branch, rectangular cavities covered by a plate, there would be several resonant peaks in the low to medium frequency range and the plate silencer shows good perfor-mance. However, most of those research works were focused on the air duct, and the study about the plate silencer for the water-filled pipeline is hardly researched. Besides, the light and extreme-ly stiff plate, which leads to the good noise reduction performance of the plate silencer, is difficult to achieve in current engineering. Therefore, the noise reduction mechanism of the plate silencer should be still analysed deeply, and the new design is needed. In this work, firstly, the 3D model of a water-pipe plate silencer with air cavity is built to analyse the noise reduction mechanism of the plate silencer using the current related materials; secondly, the structures related to the per-formance of the plate silencer are optimized to make the performance of the plate silencer better using the current material properties.
