Singapore Botanic Gardens, a heart of green in the garden city of Singapore, is the first and only tropical botanic garden on the UNESCO's World Heritage List. The Gardens have 18 historical landmarks and 13 national orchid garden landmarks. However, the soundscape in the Gardens has not been taken account into the touring plan and design. The pleasant soundscape might bring well-being positively on human's health. Therefore, this paper aims to evaluate the soundscape quality and identify the classification of the soundscape in the Gardens. In-situ investigations in eight selected locations from the main attractions were conducted through a soundwalk approach to describe categories of sound sources, sound environment, and visual environment. As a result, three clusters of the eight scenarios were classified by soundscape attributes. The 'natural sound in the vicinity and artificial sound in the distance' was the most anticipated sound category by 55.68% records. The dominates of natural sound reflected obviously positive association with 'pleasant', 'calm' and 'mo-notonous' in the soundscape attributes. 'Concordance of landscape & soundscape' was strongly related to with 'pleasant' and 'calm'. An acoustical indicator (LAFTeq-LAeq) for soundscape design was found, which was negatively associated with 'pleasant' and 'monot-onous' of the soundscape. These findings would offer a preliminary guidance of the sound-scape design and create healthy soundscapes of the urban parks in the tropic.
